International Chili Company

Logo & package design


Background: The International Chili Co (stylized as Intl. Chili Co.) is a concept company that is best known for the international variety of hot sauces that they sell. In addition to hot sauces, the company also produces various, chili-based condiments, such as salsas, chili pastes, and chili oils. 

Problem: The goal of the project was to design the brand essentials for the company, defining the logo, typefaces, and colors and design packaging for some of the hot sauce products.

Process: Since the company is best known for their hot sauces, I did some research on the ingredients and the production of hot sauces. The common ingredient in hot sauces is some variety of the chili pepper, and since there are over 50,000 types of chilis in the world, I incorporated a line over the ā€œLā€s in the logo, since a horizontal line over the L is the way that 50,000 is written in Roman numerals. Additionally, I looked at chili colors to help determine the color palette for the brand.

I also researched other hot sauce brands to see what their brands and packaging looked like. I identified some of the similarities and noted elements that stood out to me and took that into consideration when designing the packing. 

Solution: I designed the logo, 3 sets of hot sauce labels, and 1 label for a chili paste. Since this is an international brand, I stylized both the logo and labels to look like stamps, drawing inspiration from passport stamp designs. I used the colors of chili colors as well as illustrations to differentiate the different flavors for the chili products.
