instax mini 90

Product illustration & marketing campaign

Background: instax 90 is an instant camera that released by Fujifilm in September 2013.

Problem: The goal of the project was to use Illustrator to realistically illustrate an object of your choice and create an advertisement for the product.

Process: To create the illustration, I traced a reference image of the camera using the pen tool in Illustrator. I drew each component on a different layer so that it would be easier to focus on specific parts of the camera. I used the eyedropper tool and the gradient tool to create the color, shadows, and lights on the camera.

Since instant cameras were popular in the 1970s, I created mood boards to compile designs and designs that were popular during the decade. I also looked up the websites for the other instax cameras and looked at their social media account posts to get inspiration.

I researched the types of posts and ads that Fujifilm has run for their instax cameras and created a series of ads that has a more “classic” look and feel because of the vintage/retro look of the camera itself.

Solution: The advertising campaign consists of a poster, banner, and magazine ad. Since instax’s cameras are geared towards a younger audience, I opted to use bright, retro colors to more closely match what instax does for their other cameras and create a connection to the time when instant cameras were most popular.  I also redesigned the home page of the website. The current version of the website uses neutral colors and I redesigned it to incorporate images that have the more vibrant colors and angular elements seen in the campaign.
