The Sunny Side
Brand identity design | Brochure and web design
Background: The Sunny Side is a conceptual, all-day brunch and coffee café based in San Diego, CA.
Problem: The goal of the project was to create a brand identity for the café, along with stationary system and printed and digital menus.
Process: I researched other brunch and breakfast restaurants to get a sense for what their logos looked like. I browsed Pinterest, Dribbble, and Behance, compiling logo and brand system inspiration for a couple of mood boards. Since the café is located in San Diego, I researched beach brands and visual elements to indicate the location and add to the casual, welcoming feeling that the café has. I did a couple of sketches based off of my mood boards and refined a narrowed down selection in Illustrator.
Solution: The designed logo mark combines the sun and the water to convey the café’s location. The bottom of the logo mark is shaped like a bowl to also indicate that it’s a place where you can order food. I selected a brighter color palette to convey the friendliness of the brand as well as the location of the restaurant. For the logo typeface, I selected Cubano since it was bold but still approachable due to it’s rounded features. For the stationary system, I used the stripes from the bottom half of the logo mark, combined with the 3 logo colors and used that across all 3 print pieces. I also designed the website home page and a takeout and digital menu.
